I am Raz Ben Ami: I was Kidnapped by Hamas of October 7. This is my Story. It is Our Story

Yisroel Roll — Tue, 02 Sep 2025 15:19:41 GMT

My name is Raz Ben Ami, and I was kidnapped with my husband Ohad from Kibbutz Be’eri on October 7. I was held captive by Hamas and was released after 54 days. Ohad, my husband, the love of my life, and the father of my girls, is still being held hostage in Gaza.

This is my story.

Ohad and I have been married for 28 years. Since the day we met, I had no doubt that I was going to spend the rest of my life with this man. Ohad proposes to me every morning and every morning I say yes. I have been saying yes for 28 years. For the past 420 days, I have woken up every morning hoping to say yes again.

Ohad and 100 remaining hostages are suffering without proper food, with no air, no light, and no warmth. No medications. They are exposed to physical and mental abuse in Hamas tunnels, deep underground.

Me and my daughters call upon all peoples and nations to demand justice. The world cannot stay silent. The evil that is being done to our people cannot be allowed to continue.

To my Jewish brothers and sisters I encourage us all to do what we can to help those who are suffering. We pray that Ohad is alive and that he will return.

There are now 870 Jewish children in Israel who were made orphans by Hamas on October 7. Their parents will not return and we must do what we can to support them.

I just visited Baltimore, Maryland with my daughters to launch a campaign to help five of these orphans

Here is a campaign to support the educational and mental health needs of these orphans.
Let us unite to help rebuild their lives.

Top 10 Talmud Part 3: Acting Like God Through Compassion *Book a FREE 15 minute Wisdom Coaching session: https://cal.com/yisroel-roll-mobi5l/wisdom-discovery-call

In this episode, we explore a powerful teaching from Tractate Sotah—about how to live with divine purpose by imitating God's actions. The Talmud teaches: Just as God visits the sick, comforts the brokenhearted, and provides for the needy, so too must we. We don’t connect to God by escaping the world—we connect by engaging with it. Through acts of kindness, generosity, and empathy, we bring God’s presence into our lives and into the world around us.

🕯️ What does it mean to “act like God”?
🤝 How do we develop the character traits that reflect the Divine?
❤️ Why visiting the sick and caring for the poor is a spiritual practice?

This class explores the Jewish path to self-perfection—not through abstract theology, but through radical compassion and moral courage.

Just as God is compassionate, patient, forgiving, creative, and truthful, we are meant to reflect those same traits in our lives. This is how we perfect ourselves and transform the world around us.

The Nazi Museum of an Extinct Race

Yisroel Roll — Tue, 02 Sep 2025 15:09:07 GMT

The 1,564 sacred Scrolls which came to Westminster Synagogue on February 7, 1964, had been gathered together in Prague, from the desolated synagogues of Bohemia and Moravia, by the Nazi official in charge of the Czech 'Protectorate.' Much more synagogue booty, books, pictures, embroidered vestments, and ceremonial objects of silver and gold were similarly collected by the Nazis, and many of these articles are now in the State Jewish Museum in Prague. The Scrolls themselves lay piled in the disused Michle Synagogue for more than 20 years. They were originally gathered for permanent exhibition as relics of am extinct Jewish culture.

At the end of the war the surviving remnant of the Prague Jewish community lacked the resources to maintain the museum, and it came under the control of the Czech state authorities. It was maintained conscientiously as a memorial to the vanished communities, but the Sifrei Torah (Scrolls of the Law) could not be effectively displayed as museum exhibits, and it was realized that they would eventually deteriorate if they remained rolled up and unused.

In 1963, a prominent British art dealer, who enjoyed the confidence of Artia, the Czech government agency responsible for cultural property, was able to arrange for the scrolls to be acquired by Ralph Yablon, a London businessman and philanthropist, on the understanding that they would be entrusted to a responsible noncommercial body; the honorary officers of Westminster Synagogue, an independent London congregation, accepted Yablon's invitation to undertake this responsibility. After a preliminary examination in Prague by Chimen Abramsky (later professor of Hebrew and Jewish Studies at the University of London), the scrolls were carefully packed and shipped to London.

On February 7, 1964, 1,564 Sifrei Torah – a consignment which must have been unprecedented in Jewish history – arrived at Westminster Synagogue. Each scroll was expertly examined and a record made of the condition of the parchment, the state of the calligraphy, and the age and place of origin of the scroll. Many of the labels attached more than 20 years before had survived and provided valuable information; and in some cases despairing messages were concealed in the scrolls. The scrolls were classified into grades, ranging from those without serious defect and thus readily usable, to those beyond satisfactory repair and therefore suitable only for commemorative use. The task of inspection and classification was directed by Rabbi Harold Reinhart, the minister of Westminster Synagogue, who gave devoted attention to every aspect of the project until his death in 1969. A committee had been formed to take responsibility for the scrolls, and the formidable task of administering the work of repair and distribution was undertaken by Ruth Shaffer, daughter of the Yiddish novelist and dramatist Sholem Asch.

In the ensuing years visitors from many parts of the world have come to Westminster Synagogue to see the scrolls and often to witness the work of restoration in progress. Jews and non-Jews alike, including parties from schools and other institutions, have been deeply moved by the human tragedy implicit in what they have seen and by the scope and importance of the project.

Priority was given from the outset to congregations needing a Sefer Torah for use in services, but many scrolls that could not be made acceptable for this purpose have been distributed to synagogues, educational institutions, and other bodies wishing to have a memorial to the communities destroyed in the Holocaust.

In many cases, allocations have been made to synagogues which include among their members some who have personal or family links with the communities from which the scrolls originated.

The work of restoration was undertaken initially by Sofrim (scribes) who examined the scrolls, but since 1967 one highly skilled sofer (scribe) has devoted himself almost without interruption to the task. The remaining 150 scrolls remain, as a permanent exhibition at Westminster Synagogue, devoted to the history of the project and to the memory of the Czech communities. Since 1980, the constitution and activities of the Memorial Scrolls Committee have been governed by a Trust deed.

Czech memorial scrolls are now in use in many parts of the world. The United States, as might be expected, has been the main recipient; but many requests from Israel have been met, as have others from virtually every country in which Jewish communities flourish freely. In addition, scrolls appropriate as memorials are to be found at Yad Vashem, at Westminster Abbey, in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle, and in many other places where they serve, in Harold Reinhart's words, 'to live, to commemorate, to inspire a saddened but not hopeless world, and to glorify the Holy Name.

Overcoming Loneliness: The Torah Antidote

Yisroel Roll — Tue, 02 Sep 2025 15:06:51 GMT

Overcoming loneliness and the painful feeling of being alone is one of the most searched struggles of the human condition — but there is a way to transform loneliness into strength and even discover a Torah antidote to feeling isolated.

Loneliness can strike anywhere — in a crowd, at a party, or even within our own families. In this video, we explore:

Why loneliness begins in childhood and shapes how we see ourselves.

The difference between being alone and feeling lonely.

How to turn that isolation into inner strength and unique purpose.

A Torah-based perspective on overcoming loneliness and finding meaning.

📖 Drawing from the book Alone Against the World: The Torah Antidote to Loneliness, we uncover how moments of “existential loneliness” — like standing in the middle of the room as a toddler — actually shape our ability to grow, walk independently, and find our unique contribution to the world.

✨ Instead of sinking into despair, you can choose:

Alone → Lonely (giving in to gravity)

Alone → Unique (rising with purpose)

👉 If you’ve ever asked: Why do I still feel lonely? How do I overcome loneliness? Can spirituality help me stop feeling so isolated? — this video is for you.

Close Up Radio Interview with Rabbi Yisroel Roll

Yisroel Roll — Mon, 01 Sep 2025 13:43:06 GMT

Baltimore, MD - Break free from the mundane and step into a life of purpose and joy, where every moment feels like a dance—guided by Rabbi Yisroel Roll, JD, LCPC. As the visionary behind Wisdom Coaching, Rabbi Roll offers an inspiring blend of executive coaching and spiritual counseling, rooted in a profound journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

Rabbi Yisroel Roll’s journey is a captivating blend of transformation—from the high-stakes world of criminal law in Toronto to the Talmudic teachings of his rabbinical leadership in London, and ultimately, to the deeply personal realm of psychotherapy and executive coaching in Baltimore. Each chapter of his story adds a layer to his distinctive approach, designed to guide executives of all faiths to travel beyond “success” and into true fulfillment.

In his latest book, 'May I Have This Dance? Dance Through Life So Life Doesn’t Dance Through You,' Rabbi Roll opens a door to a transformative world where personal growth transcends conventional limits. The book follows a young married couple, Breeze and Blaze as they learn the art of the “Ballroom Self,” while managing successful careers and three kids under 7. They learn to cope with sibling rivalry, marital issues, illness, anxiety, depression and the ultimate challenge: in-laws who are coming for the weekend.

A Journey of Awakening

At age 28, a lecture ignited a spark within Rabbi Roll. The speaker said: 'Arise before an old person,' means that before we grow old, we must rise and seize our potential. This insight propelled him from Toronto’s bustling courts to the wisdom of Jerusalem’s rabbinical sages. There, Rabbi Roll underwent a profound transformation, shifting from an advocate for criminals to becoming a proponent of spiritual and emotional transformation. He embraced the Sabbath as the cornerstone of his personal philosophy—a system for reflection and growth. “The Sabbath,” Rabbi Roll explains, “is not just a day of rest—it’s a weekly reset, a time for self-reflection that nurtures personal transformation.”

Combining Faith and Fulfillment

Through Wisdom Coaching, Rabbi Roll addresses the void in traditional executive success—fulfillment and meaning. His approach knits together threads of spirituality and psychology, underscoring that personal growth and professional excellence are bound by a common thread. By reimagining spiritual traditions as powerful tools for self-actualization, he effortlessly integrates them with modern coaching techniques, creating a path to deeper fulfillment.

His executive clients of all faiths, often high-powered, determined, and wealthy, find solace in Rabbi Roll’s spiritual guidance, which transcends religion. His brand of executive spirituality helps successful entrepreneurs and Fortune 500 executives regain their sense of purpose amidst life’s chaos. They learn to prioritize well-being over burnout, achieving sustainable success while preserving inner peace.

A Call for Conscious Reflection

At a time when technology distances us from personal introspection, Rabbi Roll emphasizes the need for conscious reflection. Through his seven-step motivational system, outlined in his book, 'Stay Woke and Ignite Your Soul,' executives are guided back to their core identities—a powerful journey toward finding their “Ballroom Self.”

“Technology takes us away from who we truly are,” Rabbi Roll asserts, drawing upon the lessons learned from his own family’s decision to forgo distractions like video games and television. His commitment to the inner self has always been clear: engage, inspire, and calibrate oneself, from within.

Exploring the Essence of Self

In his captivating coaching sessions, clients learn the art of self-discovery, mindfulness, and reflection—manifested in daily practices based on neuroscience: meditation, creative exploration, and the deep listening to one’s soul to find the “silent voice” of self. Rabbi Roll passionately believes that by exploring our ten divine attributes—compassion, empathy, patience, and more—individuals can lead lives filled with intention and authenticity.

Offering the Key—And the Dance Floor

For those ready to reclaim their narrative and renew their commitment to personal and professional growth, Wisdom Coaching offers the key—and a dance floor for practicing life’s subtle, intricate steps. With Rabbi Roll as the guide, doors to self-awareness open, revealing endless possibilities for growth and connection.

About Wisdom Coaching

Wisdom Coaching, founded by Rabbi Yisroel Roll, JD, LCPC, stands at the confluence of executive success and personal fulfillment, blending age-old wisdom with cutting-edge psychological insights. This revolutionary approach weaves spirituality into the fabric of self-development, inspiring leaders to transcend traditional success markers and dance into a life of purpose.

Top 10 Talmud Part 2: Shabbat 133b: Becoming Like God Through Character Development

Yisroel Roll — Tue, 26 Aug 2025 02:50:26 GMT

In this episode, we explore Tractate Shabbat 133b, where the Talmud unpacks the powerful words sung at the Sea of Reeds: “This is my God, and I will glorify Him.” What does it mean to glorify God? How can we bring His presence into the world?

Through this foundational passage, we discover a life-changing principle: our purpose is to emulate God's character. Just as God is compassionate, patient, forgiving, creative, and truthful, we are meant to reflect those same traits in our lives. This is how we perfect ourselves and transform the world around us.

You’ll also learn:

Why the 13 attributes of God (Exodus 34:6–7) are essential to spiritual growth

How the Talmud views the Written Torah as “lecture notes” to a deeper oral tradition

Why acting with empathy and integrity is a true religious and spiritual act

📖 Source: Talmud, Shabbat 133b
📘 Concepts: Imitating God, Divine Attributes, Self-Perfection, Jewish Spirituality
💡 Theme: Bringing holiness into the world by becoming your highest self

If you’ve ever asked “Why am I here?”, this episode gives you an answer rooted in eternal wisdom.
